Ken Armstrong is the former executive director of the Sanford Housing Authority, North Carolina agency since 2002 and was the executive director of the Ormond Beach Housing Authority in Florida for about 10 years before Sanford.
After 20-plus years of experience as an executive director, Armstrong said he’s pretty much done it all when it comes to housing authorities. He took on a troubled agency in Ormond Beach years ago and then came to a semi-troubled agency in North Carolina and was able to straighten troubling issues in both authorities.
The Alachua County Housing Authority has a few problems that he will needs to pull up his sleeves and take care of as well. The housing authority needs to address some issues with the Sunshine Inn, which provides transitional housing for homeless veterans, he said. He is also looking into other possible opportunities for the local housing authority, such as potentially converting some warehouses downtown into housing. (Gainesville Sun, Sept 2014)
