In 2009 IWI launched Alachua YouthBuild in Gainesville, Florida, through a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor. Now operating as Project YouthBuild, our goal is to improve the lives of young people within our community.
Our students:
- Are Between the Ages of 16 & 24
- Come From Low-Income Households
- Have Not Completed High School
- Desire an Opportunity to Transform Their Lives
- SUCCEED
This transformation is accomplished through an intensive 7-month program where students study for their high school diploma, build and rehabilitate low income housing, earn nationally recognized construction certifications, and develop leadership, life, and employability skills.
What sets Project YouthBuild apart is our distinctive methods for helping youth reach their untapped potential. Some approaches include:
- Community Building through our Vision 20/20 Initiative
- Leadership Development
- Mentoring
- Youth Advisors
- Post-Secondary Scholarship Opportunities
