Public Housing Unit Locations:
To satisfy this mission the Alachua County Housing Authority provides public housing units in the following locations in Florida:

Cedar Ridge, Gainesville (12 Units)
Greentree Village, Gainesville (2 Units)
Hawthorne (40 Single Family Units)
Mill Run, Gainesville (12 Units)
Newberry (30 Single Family Units)
Phoenix, Gainesville (12 Units)
Pine Forest, Gainesville (12 Units)
Pine Glade, Gainesville (1 Single Family Unit)
Rocky Point, Gainesville (34 Elderly Units)
Sugarfoot, Gainesville (16 Units)
Toweroaks, Gainesville (12 Units)
Waldo (20 Single Family Units)

Applications:
Applications for the Public Housing Program are taken on a daily basis and the waiting list is purged as units become available. During 2006, the Public Housing Lease Up Rate increased slightly as a result of:

Overview of Voucher Programs (2006)
A. Applicant ions, Waiting List and Voucher Assurance:
The ACHA experienced an overwhelming demand for new applicants interested in the Chousing Choice Voucher Program. Due to lack of funds and limited voucher subsidies, the ACHA only accepted applications for the Disability Housing Choice Voucher Program during the 2006 fiscal periods. During this period the ACHA:
Experienced an abnormal trend of applicants not responding to update letters. Our department sent 624 update letters--or an average of 52 updates a month to applicants on the waiting list.
Accepted 114 applicants for the Disability Housing Choice Voucher Program.
Had a waiting list of 2+ years for the Housing Choice Voucher Program.
Issued a total of 117 Housing Choice Vouchers to applicants on the waiting list.
B. Voucher Subsidy Statistics :
At the close of 2006, the ACHA was administering a total of 613 voucher subsidies:
434 Regular Housing Choice Vouchers
73 Mainstream Housing for Persons with Disabilities
74 Portable Housing Choice Vouchers
32 Single Residency Occupancy Vouchers
C. Voucher Termination Statistics:
During 2006 our agency TERMINATED 87 Housing Choice Vouchers. The top five grounds for termination during this period were as follows:
- Failure to complete annual reexamination
- Failure to submit rental documents for a suitable unit
- Move Violations: abandoning units
- Indebtedness: failure to make rental payments to the landlord
- Over Income: family's annual household income exceeds the HUD established income limits by family size.
D. Voucher Characteristics:
Distribution of Source Income:
65.2% of our voucher families have either wages, Social Security Income, Social Security, or Pension as their source of income
14.9% of our voucher families receive welfare assistance
Distribution of Annual Income:
The average annual income of the ACHA Voucher Participants in 2006 was $10,785 which was a $101 increase from 2005
Theavergae annual income of the State of Florida Voucher Participant in 2006 was $10,757 or a $43 decrease from 2005
Distribution of Total Tenant Payment:
The average monthly Total Tenant Payment (TTP) for ACHA voucher participants during 2006 was $244
The average monthly Total Tenant payment (TTP) for the state of FL voucher participants during 2006 was $242
Length of Participation in Voucher Program:
62.2% of the ACHA voucher participants have been receiving assistance for less than one to five years
19.4% of the ACHA voucher participants have been receiving assistance for five to ten years
18.4% of the ACHA voucher participants have been receiving assistance for 10 to more than 20 years
