The Executive Director of the Alachua County Housing Authority (ACHA) is Gail Monahan. She began working at the ACHA in January, 1973 as a Social Services Coordinator, and was promoted to the Executive Director in July of the same year.

Ms. Monahan received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Rhode Island in 1971 and moved to Alachua County as a Volunteer In Service to America (VISTA) volunteer. She is certified as a Public Housing Manager by the National Center for Housing Management Inc., and has completed many accounting, community development, and management seminars.


Ms. Monahan is extensively involved in local community affairs. She is currently a member of:


  • NAHRO Committee
  • Florida Association of Housing Redevelopment Officials (FAHRO)
  • Alachua County Coalition for the Homeless and Hungry
  • Alachua/Bradford Regional Workforce Board
  • The Alachua County Coalition for School Readiness



Additionally, she has also served as President of FAHRO, a Guardian Ad Litem for the 8th Judicial Court, a member of the United Way Budget Allocation Committee, the Expansion Committee for Neighborhood Housing Services, Inc., a former member of the Planned Parenthood Board, and a former member of the Volunteer Center.
